PIPERs of East Hoathly, Framfield, Waldron and beyond

My fifth cousin and I are descended from Richard Piper who lived most of his life in East Hoathly. We have lots of information about his descendants but have been unsuccessful in identifying his birth/baptism details.

We know he was buried in Nov 1817 at East Hoathly, his age given as 67. This would make his birth year c.1750 but despite exhaustive efforts over the past few years, we cannot match a Richard to this time.

The closest we've come is a Richard baptised in 1756 at Heathfield to Richard and Mary (nee Hylands sic) and although we've been very tempted to accept him as ours, we still have a nagging doubt! We have references to many PIPERs in the Heathfield area and would love to hear from anyone with similar interests, especially those involving our elusive Richard!
